Someone needs a Good Old Fashion Lesson in Kindness!

On Monday of this week, the Palin family celebrated the birthday of the youngest member of their family, Trig. Trig, as many know, was born with down syndrome, and sadly has been the brunt of jokes and jabs at the Palin family.

?

This year has been no different, and on Trig's birthday the liberal site "Wonkette" wrote this;

"That strange man yelling unintelligibly at Sarah Palin? He?s merely a lowly shepherd proclaiming the birth of our savior. Today is the day we come together to celebrate the snowbilly grifter?s magical journey from Texas to Alaska to deliver to the America the great gentleman scholar Trig Palin. Is Palin his true mother? Or was Bristol? (And why is it that nobody questions who the father is? Because, either way, Todd definitely did it.) It doesn?t matter. What matters is that we are privileged to live in a time when we can witness the greatest prop in world political history. "

But no! It didn't end there! When the Palin family posted an adorable poem about Trig dreaming, Wonkette jumped at the chance to take another jab at the family.

?What?s he dreaming about? Nothing. He?s retarded.?

Wait now...just because Trig has a disability that means he can't dream?

I'm speaking from personal experience here. For four years I volunteered every week at an equine assisted therapy barn. I helped kids like Trig learn how to ride horses, have balance, strengthen their muscles, learn to talk, learn to walk, and help build their own personal inner strength. I watched children, who most would consider a vegetable, start to make sounds, eye contact, and giggle. I saw some stare at air planes or the stuffed animal in their hands, and I could see the joy in their eyes has they dreamed of what to do with them.

No Wonkette blogger, you have no idea what "retarded" children are capable of. They dream...they dream big! They also love big...unconditionally at times.

I challenge the Wonkette writers to spend one month working with disabled children, and then they can come back and say if those kidos dream or not. There is a reason why they are called SPECIAL needs children.

?As for the rest of us, let's take this terrible article and learn something from it. No matter who we are talking about, always show kindness and rise above this kind of stupidited. We are all created by God and we all have worth, so when we when dissagree with someone let us do so kindly. Other wise, we might stick our foot in our mouth like this blogger because we have no idea who we are talking about.

Let's Tear Sarah Palin Apart for her Reading Choices

In an interview with Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin was asked what her favorite reading material is. The first thing she mentioned was C.S.Lewis. Now, I'm a huge fan of C.S. Lewis! Not just his Chronicles of Narnia books, but also his books Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters . I agree with Mrs. Palin that one can glean a multitude of Divine Inspiration from a C.S.Lewis book.

However, MSNBC commentator Richard Wolffe thinks it is ridiculous for Mrs. Palin to mention C.S. Lewis. Check out this video from the Chris Matthews show.

I think Mr. Wolffe needs to read some of C.S.Lewis' other books. Trust me; you cannot get through Mere Christianity and say, "Nope, no Divine Inspiration there." Even in the Narnia books, there are multitudes of analogies that encourage Christians in their faith. Just today I went to see the newest Narnia movie "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" with my dad (great movie, I’d go see it again). There were so many spiritual, faith building, and over all life lessons in it! The over all theme of the movie was fighting temptation, which is also one of the themes in the book, and how to fight against it. What bigger thing do we face in a Christian life than temptation? Again, Mr. Wolffe should reconsider his remark, and I praise Mrs. Palin for reading books from "Jack" Lewis. Good choice!

By the way, the books make good Christmas gifts too, check some of them out!

Get Your Irony Dose for the Day

From the Daily Caller:

And you thought it was strange to hear that Barack Obama was related to Dick Cheney. Well, betcha can’t guess who he’s related to now!

Yup — the president has family ties to none other than Sarah Palin, according to the genealogists at Ancestry.com, a discovery the family history site made when looking for connections between political foes.

And that’s not all — Obama also is apparently related to radio host and relentless critic Rush Limbaugh. Might you want to reconsider some of your recent comments, Mr. Limbaugh, now that you’re apparently family?

A genealogist at the Utah-based Ancestry.com, Anastasia Tyler, said Obama and Palin are 10th cousins through a common ancestor named John Smith, a pastor and early settler in 17th-century Massachusetts. Obama is related to Smith through his mother, as is Palin, Tyler said.

“Smith was against the persecution of the Quakers,” Tyler said in an interview. “He was a very socially conscious man.”

As for Limbaugh, he’s also a 10th cousin of the president — one time removed — through a common ancestor named Richmond Terrell, who Tyler said was a large landowner in Virginia, also in the 17th century. “His history is a little more nebulous,” Tyler said.

How do the genealogists come up with this stuff? Tyler said they start by picking the people they’re interested in, then examine their family trees, going back further and further into history, looking for common surnames and locations.

In the recent project, genealogists looked at the trees of Obama, Palin, and Limbaugh but also a few others, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Fox pundits Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. They didn’t find anything much with the latter three.

But former President George W. Bush? He’s related to BOTH Obama and Palin, the site found. Obama and Bush are 11th cousins through common ancestor Samuel Hinckley, and Bush and Palin are 10th cousins one time removed, also through Hinckley — who, and stay with us now, was John Smith’s father-in-law.

Ancestry.com has revealed in the past that Obama is related to investor Warren Buffett and actor Brad Pitt. It has also found that Palin, the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate, is a distant cousin of both Franklin D. Roosevelt and Princess Diana.

The site isn’t the only source of this sort of celebrity genealogy information — in 2007, Cheney’s wife, Lynne, discovered ancestral ties between the Republican vice president and Obama while researching her book. She said the relationship was eighth cousin, though the Chicago Sun-Times traced it as ninth cousins once removed.

And one other thing from Ancestry.com: It also found that Palin is distant cousins with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and conservative author and pundit Ann Coulter, through John Lathrop, who was exiled to the United States from England for being a pastor of an illegal independent church.

Happily for both Obama and Coulter, no doubt, they do not seem to be related.

Well aren't we all one big happy family!

Sarah Palin vs. Rahm Emanuel

Posted by Karen DeSimone on February 2, 2010 at 3:29 PM Comments comments (2)

Former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin has lashed out against one of President Obama's "inner circle" members, Rahm Emanuel. What cause this outrage? Mr. Emanuel recently made a statement about participants in a strategy session calling them, “F---ing retarded.”  As widely known, former Governor Palin is a strong supporter of families with disabled children, as well as being a mother of a disabled child. She made this statement about what Rahm Emanuel said on her facebook page, " Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the “N-word” or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking." Governor Palin went on to say to the President that he could and should do better on choosing who should be in his inner circle.

I can see where Governor Plain is coming from. I have worked with disabled children for over 4 years as well, so when I hear something like this it does get my blood boiling . However, I don't think that Mr. Emanuel fully meant his comment to be demeaning to people with disabilities. BUT, because Mr. Emanuel is in the political position he is in he must remember that every word he says can be taken out of context, so he must watch everything he says.

Rahm Emanuel has apologized for his statement, thanks to Governor Palin for bringing this statement to light. Let this be a lesson to everyone in the public eye, you ARE in the public eye and we hear what you say.

Quote of the Week

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
