The Hard-Working Immigrant

Posted by Kelly Ann Kramer on May 19, 2011 at 10:48 AM

In my neighborhood, we have an excellent landscaper, Jay. He’s from Cuba—but he’s a legal citizen. You can easily tell that Jay is a hard worker by looking at my lawn.

Recently, my neighborhood board accused Jay of not fertilizing when he is. I’m not really sure what’s going on but it seems like the whole neighborhood is ganging up on Jay. When my mother heard this, she immediately contacted the president of the board—who is very mean—and defended Jay because he is a hard worker and we like him very much. Supposedly one person in my neighborhood—on the board—said how she didn’t like Jay’s work. The point is, how can one person’s opinion determine whether another person loses their job or not? That’s wrong; in this country, we, as U.S. citizens, all vote to elect a government official and they win because of us. All of our opinions count, so why is there a possibility that my landscaper might lose his job based on one or two opinions? To me it sounds like one person saying they don’t like Obama, and then Obama is impeached. Even though some of us may hope for that, it doesn’t work that way.

Jay, my landscaper, is a hard worker—he’s the kind of person I support—he works hard for his money. He’s very smart and also a nice person to talk to. When my parents got our house re-painted, my mother insisted on getting a new landscaper to make the lawn look beautiful. Ever since we hired Jay, everything we wanted done is done; Jay was a big help to my family and still is. He works very hard to support his family. He has small children and makes the most of his job so he can care for them. I really hope my neighborhood does not fire Jay based on one or two opinions because I support people like Jay. If you’re a hard worker, I like you. If you’re a hardworking immigrant, I like you even more. That’s what I like to hear—an immigrant who takes their job seriously rather than not working at all and living on welfare. That’s what Jay is: A hard working, immigrant who became an American citizen…

People forget the "Golden Rule" - Treat others as you would be treated.
They also forget the 10 Commandments, especially the ones about not coveting a neighbors goods (not in this case) and not bearing false witness (lying)

I'm sure the people in your neighborhood would not like to lose their jobs because someone did not tell the truth about them.

Unless Jay is doing something that violates the law or is dangerous or harmful to the person's property, he should be allowed to continue to do his work.

Unfortunately, being an adult doesn't always make a person mature. Some people do nothing but cause trouble for others because of their own selfish motives - it makes them feel good to be the center of attention, even if it is for something bad.

Tell Jay to keep up the good work and that we are glad to have him here as a hard working American citizen of Cuban heritage.

Typically, if you don't like someone's work, you dismiss them, plain and simple. There must be another reason this person doesn't like Jay and wants to announce it to the neighborhood. The accuser, more than likely is the person with something to hide.

Kelly, You have a lot to learn. No matter how hard this dude works, if he is an illegal alien and entered this country without proper documentation or has over stayed his visa, he is a criminal. The prisons are full of daddy's who worked hard but committed crimes!! Our economic system cannot support the invasion of illegal aliens!! They take jobs Americans need whether you believe it or not! America has shipped out most of its factories to Mexico so Mexicans can have jobs.....We Americans gave up millions of jobs for that reason and they are coming here still to take our jobs and get welfare. I think some welfare is needed but by golly if I am going to pay high taxes then I want my welfare dollars to go to disabled Americans, American Children in need etc. Mexicans and others need to force their own government to do something for their nation!!!! They are criminals when the come here and take from us!!!! The USA gives billions of dollars each year to Mexico to help them.....they need to stay at home!!!! LIVE and learn...you will change your mind when you are needing a job and about to be homeless and there are illegals working at the places you can apply!!!!

Chris, first the Golden Rule should be observed by the illegal aliens.....they should stay in their own country!!!!! Would they want Americans coming there and taking all they have....instead America has moved 75% of our factories to Mexico to give them jobs but they ignore this and bring their crime to America!!! Grow up, learn the truth........go to NumbersUSA.com and read all the articles.......

I don't know where you are getting this false information! Jay is a LEGAL U.S. CITIZEN. He came to America when he was just 12 years old! He's completely legal. Jay is a hard worker and a nice man.

Quote of the Week

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
